Despite ending week two with a horrendous road loss to the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Cowboys actually woke up to some good news on Monday morning of week three.

That news, of course, is that their formerly suspended defensive end Damontre Moore is now eligible to return to play once again. Making his long-awaited Cowboys debut this Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals, Moore may end up kicking a few other defensive linemen out of their normal rotations.

It could be argued that during the preseason Damontre Moore was the Cowboys’ best defensive linemen. Finishing with two sacks and seven tackles over rather limited playing time, Moore made an impact on each and every preseason game he stepped foot in.

Because of his preseason performance, Moore’s return from suspension has been highly anticipated; despite his lack of regular season production during his first five seasons in the league.

Still, the return of Damontre Moore could have big implications on how much/little a couple Cowboys ends play this week and beyond. Rookie Taco Charlton and Benson Mayowa have been getting in with the second defensive line over the last two games. It is possible that if able to quickly make an impact, Moore will unseat one of these two rushers.

Sophomore Charles Tapper has also been seeing some solid snap counts in the rotation, but will need to play more like his week-one-self this Monday if he’d like to keep it that way.Damontre Moore

It seems pretty clear that DeMarcus Lawrence isn’t going to be leaving the starting lineup anytime soon, but a rush-men package which includes both Lawrence and Moore could be dangerous to opposing offenses.

I wonder if Rod Marinelli would allow for Damontre Moore to kick inside to three-technique on obvious passing downs, allowing for the Cowboys to load up on pass rushers on the line of scrimmage.

Combining Lawrence, Moore, Maliek Collins, and David Irving (come week five) could produce a rather lethal rushing front. No, they don’t have the true “War Daddy” edge rusher that Denver or Oakland does, but all four players have proven they can dominate games for short stretches.

The key will be all for all four to come throguh during crucial moments this season. Regardless, Cowboys Nation should certainly be excited to have Damontre Moore back this Monday night.

  1. With Moore and Tapper, you get that pure speed off the right side. Mayowa was a nice find as well. Let Lawrence continue to tear up RTs and watch the pressures come.

  2. Lawrence’s play so far should help Moore. He should get a lot of snaps without any extra blocking coming from the backfield or tight end of the Cardinals offense as they should be used to help their back up tackle try to control Lawrence.
