With the Ravens season screeching to a halt last night against the Steelers the rumor came out that the Cowboys might be making a run for Ray Lewis, who becomes a free agent for next season. Read the rumor here!

Now upon hearing this rumor I thought to myself….What the F. But then after digesting this all day I realized this could be a positive addition for this team. Whether it was just manufactured drama in the Cowboys locker room this year or not, there was definitely something wrong with the chemistry leadership of this team. Ray Lewis is a natural leader, as well as a one of the most, if not the most feared linebackers in the game. Offenses plan their attack based on where he lines up and (try) to adjust accordingly during the game. When you add a player of this caliber to a team you immediately see changes in all aspects of the group. Yes he might have played his best football already and he might be creeping towards the end of his career, but this season he showed absolutely no signs of slowing down. I found myself watching a few Ravens games this season and one thing remained true in every game…Wherever the ball is Ray is!

Now we could go on and on about salary cap and guaranteed contracts and blah blah blah, but the main thing to focus on is this team has a lot of players that have been in the league a long time and never won the big game. No other team is picked to go all the way ever season (realistically or not) like the Cowboys are , this is why when they have seasons like this years it is so devastating for us fans. We expect these players to live up to their hype and when they fall short we are crushed. Ray Lewis is an extremely talented and smart football player, I would argue that he is one of the best LBs of all time! So if this deal does go down I expect to see the Ray Lewis we have been watching for so long and with this a new attitude will come for the Cowboys on the defensive side of the ball.

Now the other thing to think about is the locker room morale. I do not think Ray Lewis would stand for any of the crap that went on this year in the Cowboys locker room, this game is not about one person or a few people in the locker room, it is about the team as a whole. Good teams always have good leaders, take for instance this years Super Bowl teams. Kurt Warner is a leader, he is an older guy who has been on both sides of the spectrum in the NFL and he lead a mediocre team to the big show. I would personally be very happy if Ray Lewis was wearing a Blue Star on his helmet next year and i doubt any serious Cowboys fan would disagree.

Let me know what you think about this!
