Round 1 (28th overall): David Njoku, TE, Miami
I know I'm probably going to catch a lot of flak for choosing to go with a tight end in the first round for the Dallas Cowboys in this mock draft, but this pick was all about taking the best player available.
O.J. Howard might be the top-ranked tight end in the 2017 draft class, but David Njoku is certainly in the conversation as being just as good.
At 6'4″, 245, Njoku has prototypical size you look for in a tight end in the NFL. His skill set allows him to be split out as a receiving TE, but he is also more than capable of holding his own as an in-line blocker.
Njoku probably won't be a starter in his first year with the Cowboys since Jason Witten is still playing at a relatively high level. But, as much as the offense uses two TEs, he will see plenty of playing time and eventually become Witten's successor.
