Cowboys Release Dontari Poe, Daryl Worley; Add Cooper Rush to Practice Squad

After trading Everson Griffen to the Detroit Lions earlier this week, the Dallas Cowboys continued to purge the defense by releasing two underperforming veterans in the Dontari Poe and Daryl Worley.

Failing to find a trade partner like with Everson Griffen, Defensive Tackle Dontari Poe and Cornerback Daryl Worley have been officially released by the Dallas Cowboys. Parting ways with these three veterans is yet further evidence of how poorly the Cowboys fared with their free agent signings this offseason. They now join the likes of Gerald McCoy and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of defensive players who made little to no impact in 2020.

In other news, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to bring back Quarterback Cooper Rush, signing him to the practice squad.

With just Ben DiNucci – a 2020 seventh-round draft pick – and Garrett Gilbert as the only healthy QBs on the roster, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to bring back a familiar face in Cooper Rush.

Cooper Rush served as Dak Prescott’s primary backup the past few seasons and looked like the favorite to remain so this year until Andy Dalton joined the roster. He is familiar with Kellen Moore’s offensive system, so once he passes all of the COVID protocols and physical he could be thrown right into the mix.

It will be interesting to see how this move plays out moving forward. Andy Dalton should return in Week 9 as the starter, but who will become the QB2… DiNucci, Gilbert, or Rush? This is definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on considering how dangerous it is to play behind the Cowboys patchwork offensive line right now.
