The Dallas Cowboys have taken a 17-14 lead into halftime of their Week 15 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. Dallas scored two early touchdowns off lost fumbles by San Francisco and have held on to the lead thus far.
The Cowboys punted on their first possession but then got the ball back off a fumble on the return. Tony Pollard, starting today for an injured Ezekiel Elliott, punched it into the endzone for the opening score.
Pollard has only 16 rushing yards on six carries against San Francisco’s strong defense. However, he has five catches for 51 yards for some alternative production.
The Niners fumbled again on their next possession to set up Dallas in scoring position. Andy Dalton eventually found Michael Gallup for the touchdown pass.
Dalton has 123 yards on 12/20 passing. He’s done well despite tremendous pressure from the 49ers defense, which is getting more aggressive as the game goes.
The Cowboys’ defense has done solidly so far. DeMarcus Lawrence and Jourdan Lewis each have sacks on Nick Mullens, with Tank’s sack causing one of the fumbles. They’re still struggling against the run, though, as Raheem Mostert has 67 yards on just 13 carries.
Mostert’s running has helped keep the 49ers in it, allowing Mullens to throw touchdown passes as they’ve had little trouble moving the ball once they stopped turning it over.
We’ll see if the Cowboys can hold on to this lead or if the Niners’ comeback will continue as the second half is soon to begin.
