Something we have not seen since 2009? A pair of running backs both rush for 1,000 yards.
The last rushing duo to do so was In 2009, Carolina Panthers running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart became the sixth 1,000-yard rushing duo and the first 1,100-yard rushing duo.
The Cowboys have a chance to be the first duo since Williams and Stewart did it years ago. Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard are knocking on the door. Pollard finished last season with 719 yards, so it is not like he wasn’t close. He only mustered 130 carries last season for an average of 5.5 yards per carrying. That is incredible.
Elliott is not going anywhere, the workhorse that gets the engine going. He will find himself over 1,000 yards again next season. He did it last year and was not even healthy for much of the season.
Expect Pollard to have a huge role this season. I think he will line up in the slot and find himself having some gadget plays run for him. With the extra game and the emphases that have rippled up this off-season about how Dallas uses Pollard, I expect both to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark.
Elliott will carry the bulk of the load like always. That 2009 season, Williams made the Pro-Bowl with 216 rushes for 1,117 yards, and Stewart finished with 221 carries and 1,113 yards. When you think about that from two running backs, those are the types of numbers that both Elliott and Pollard could put up.
Williams was the starter for the Panthers that season and scored 18 touchdowns. Kellen Moore can dial it up. Split the carries right down the middle, and you could see this type of success. It is written right in the cards for Moore.
The Cowboys duo can be thunder and lighting. It is just a matter of the play-caller. Let these boys feast.
