Report: Seattle Seahawks Plan On Re-Signing DB Earl Thomas

The number one fantasy of Cowboys fans everywhere this offseason has been trading for Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas. Ever since Thomas walked into the Dallas locker room following the Cowboys back-breaking Christmas Eve loss, Cowboys Nation has had their fingers crossed for a Thomas return to Texas.

Now, however, that hope looks even more far-fetched than it ever has.

Kyle Newport of Bleacher Report is reporting that the Seahawks want to keep Earl Thomas “long term,” and have no plans of moving him at this time. This, of course, makes sense as Earl Thomas has been the best free safety in football for quite some time.

Though he will be due for a new contract very soon, Thomas has proven to be worth every dime he’s made, and teams should have no problems in paying him. Thomas’ deal expires after the 2018 season, but Newport is also reporting that Seattle plans on signing him to a new contract. Thomas has said, though, he won’t return to the team until he has contract security.

Earl Thomas was named a Pro Bowler for the sixth time in his career in 2017, finishing the season with two interceptions, a forced fumble, and 88 tackles.

So, while abandoning all hope might be foolish, it looks even more foolish to expect Earl Thomas to be a Cowboy in 2018 at this point.
