Randy Gregory Arrives in New York, On Path For Reinstatement

If frantically refreshing Twitter for news on a certain Dallas Cowboys player tending to off-field matters in New York City reminds you of nothing but bad times, some surprisingly good news may be on the way. Cowboys Defensive End Randy Gregory is in the ‘Big Apple’ for the next step of his reinstatement process, one that has gone on for months with nothing but optimism and support from Gregory’s team.

Much of Gregory’s reinstatement efforts have not been made public. The Cowboys have always stood by the fact that their second round pick of 2015 needed to get his life back on track following multiple suspensions for violation of league drug policy, regardless of if this meant he’d ever play for Dallas again.

The last positive Randy Gregory news came to us on April 20th, with reports that he’s continuously passed every drug test administered — a mere baseline for Gregory to have any hope.

It remains too early to tell if Gregory’s hopes will now fall into the hands of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but the fourth-year DE took to Twitter to announce (rather cryptically) that he’s arrived for his business at the league offices.

Gregory’s presence in New York is noteworthy, even with the Cowboys beginning their mini camp today from The Star in Frisco. Once an afterthought to ever rejoin his teammates, Gregory is clearly committed to exhausting his resources in making this a reality.

Whether or not the league fights back against Gregory, and to what extent, will potentially set up the latest public battle between the Cowboys and the NFL. Out of football since week 17 of the 2016 season, a quick resolution would benefit everyone involved, particularly Gregory.

Patiently waiting this long for the best possible news, a Randy Gregory reinstatement could be on the horizon for the Cowboys. The league reportedly has just 60 days to rule on the paperwork submitted by Gregory — which included letters from Cowboys teammates — 21 days ago, now set to meet with him face-to-face.

Randy Gregory has not gone unrecognized at any point from the Cowboys, and now the same is said about the NFL from the top. The logical next stop is for Gregory to reintroduce himself to opposing players on the field, given the potential he’s flashed in mere glimpses with the Cowboys.

Inside The Star will keep you updated with Gregory’s status in rejoining the Cowboys, be it at the team’s facility shortly or in Oxnard for training camp beginning July 26th.
