Report: Mike McCarthy To Speak With Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have yet to announce they’re moving on from Jason Garrett, but the team’s search for a new head coach is already underway. Many have speculated about the team’s search for a new leader while they’re taking so long to saying farewell to Garrett but we’ve finally heard a name linked with Dallas.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday morning that former Green Bay Packers HC Mike McCarthy is headed to Dallas to speak with the Cowboys.

McCarthy will likely interview with plenty of teams after spending last season away from the sidelines as he has also been linked with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants over the last few days.

McCarthy. a Super Bowl winner with the Packers, left Green Bay after a few somewhat disappointing seasons. A lot was made out of his relation with Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and some have speculated about an unhealthy dynamic between player and coach.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, McCarthy dismissed that notion.

“I don’t have an issue with Aaron. That perception, I have nothing but positive vibes toward Aaron Rodgers.”

McCarthy spent his time away working on his offense and coaching philosophy to come back strong for another team. His offense was said to be predictable and old. His time away might have changed that.

He’s talked about modernizing his offense with motions and shifts but sticking with a quarterback-driven philosophy. That’d be a refreshing change for the Cowboys, who have focused in a run-first mindset for a long time, specially with RB Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield.

McCarthy has had a successful career in football. In 12 seasons with the Packers he went 135-82-2 and obviously, got Green Bay a Lombardi Trophy in 2010. Unlike Garrett’s record of not making the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, McCarthy led his team to eight consecutive postseasons.

Certainly, McCarthy is one of the hottest candidates for the many vacancies around the league. It’ll be interesting to see how interested the Dallas Cowboys are in such an experienced coach.

I love to write, I love football and I love the Dallas Cowboys. I've been rooting for America's team all the way from Mexico ever since I can remember. If you want to talk football, I'm in... You'll find me at @MauNFL.
