The Dallas Cowboys will now have greater representation at the 2020 Pro Bowl thanks to the additions of Wide Receiver Amari Cooper and Linebacker Jaylon Smith, who were named as alternates today. That takes the total number of Cowboys to six for this year’s game.
The original selections were RB Ezekiel Elliott, OT Tyron Smith, C Travis Frederick, and G Zack Martin. Of that group, only Martin and Smith were named as starters.
Technically called the 2020 Pro Bowl because that’s when the game occurs, this annual all-star event will feature the players selected via fan, media, and peer voting from the 2019 season.
This will be a first trip for Jaylon Smith, who many considered a snub from last year’s game. For the rest of the Cowboys it’s nothing new; Zack Martin has been every year since he entered the NFL.
While it will likely have little bearing on his contract negotiations, Amari Cooper can’t be disappointed about receiving this accolade as he enters free agency. Any little bit of extra bargaining power helps.
Despite a down year overall for Dallas it’s nice to see our players get individual recognition. Congratulations to Amari and Jaylon for joining the Pro Bowl roster!
