The Ohio State Buckeyes have a few top-ranked players at their positions coming into the NFL. Defensive End Chase Young will be a top-five pick and is considered by many to be the best overall prospect in the draft. Jeff Okudah is the number one cornerback on just about every draft board and will have his name called within the first 10 picks more than likely. However, there’s another player that called Columbus, Ohio home that could be a day 2-3 sleeper and that’s Safety Jordan Fuller.
Fuller appeared in all 13 games as a freshman in 2016 playing mostly on special teams and totaled 11 tackles. As a sophomore, Fuller had a very productive season with 62 tackles, two interceptions, and two passes defended while being named Third-Team All-Big Ten and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. As a junior, he was named team captain and had arguably his best collegiate season with 81 tackles, an interception, four passes defended, and two fumble recoveries. He was named Second-Team All-Big Ten by the league’s coaches and an Academic All-American. Before his senior season, Fuller was on the Jim Thorpe Award and Nagurski Trophy watchlist. He would be named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Man of the Year and Lott IMPACT Trophy as well as a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. He followed that up with 62 tackles, two interceptions, four passes defended, and a forced fumble as well as being named First-Team All-Big Ten.
Scouting report according to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein
The Cowboys will more than likely address the safety position in the first two rounds of the draft, but it’s not guaranteed necessarily with defensive tackle being a big need as well as a cornerback with Byron Jones set to hit free agency. In addition to being a good player, Fuller was a leader, serving as team captain for two years. He may not draw the same attention as LSU’s Grant Delpit or Alabama’s Xavier McKinney, but he’s a sleeper option on day two or possibly day three for the Cowboys at safety.
