The Cowboys received some good news and some bad news today. David Irving has returned to the team after serving his four game suspension, that’s the good news. The bad news, may be a blessing in disguise.

As frustrating as this is for the second-year pass rusher, it may be perfect timing for the Dallas Cowboys. While the team is excited for David Irving’s return, a tough roster decision was likely to be made to make room for his roster spot.

With how thin the team is at corner, and how much the coaching staff loves Noah Brown and Brian Price, no one was sure who the cut would be.

Charles Tapper’s timely injury makes that decision pretty easy.

Tapper has been inactive the last two weeks, but did register a sack in the first game of the season from the DE position. While Irving does have the ability to play DE and DT, defensive end may be the position the Cowboys will need him the most.

An easy and quick move to IR is a win-win for the team.

David Irving gets his roster spot, the Cowboys get to keep their depth at wide receiver, cornerback, and defensive tackle, and Charles Tapper–a talented pass rusher–will stick around for another year.
