On the same day where Brandon Weeden was released and Tony Romo is expected to be taken off the short-term IR list, the Dallas Cowboys have announced two more releases this afternoon by cutting both Christine Michael and Corey White. The moves come as a surprise.

The Cowboys traded for Michael at the beginning of the season, but the Texas A&M Product never was given much of a chance to assert himself above Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden in the lineup. The release makes Trey Williams and Rod Smith more relevant as the backups to McFadden.

On the other side of things, Corey White was given some snaps here and there, and while he didn’t play badly, he also didn’t play that well. The Cowboys originally had claimed White off waivers midway through March. The release gives a bigger role to Tyler Patmon behind Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, and Byron Jones. However, considering Claiborne’s injury, a move for a cornerback could be made within the next few days.

With the three moves, the Cowboys have made some roster space for some free agents. Considering how thin they are at linebacker and in the secondary, I expect the roster spots to be filled with players from those positions.
