After a trade between the Cowboys and 49ers the Cowboys finally made a selection.  At 31st overall the Cowboys select center Travis Frederick from Wisconsin.

Honestly, this pick didn’t make much sense to me.  The Cowboys just gave Phil Costa and Ryan Cook contract extensions.

Look, Frederick is a good player. He’s your typical Wisconsin lineman.  He’s strong, physical and an excellent technician.  I think he’s a sure upgrade over the Costa and he has the versatility to possibly play guard at the next level.

There is a caveat though, Frederick was selected 31st overall in a draft that still had Jonathan Cyprien and Larry Warford available.  The Cowboys either really like Frederick or they don’t think the other positions to be serious needs.

We’ll analyze Frederick more as we go on but now the focus goes onto day two where the Cowboys will have three selections.
