Could This Current Giants’ Pass Rusher Be A Cowboy In 2017?

The emergence of Dak Prescott has been great for the Dallas Cowboys in more ways than one. Of course, they have found their quarterback of the future, someone they think can win them a Super Bowl as soon as this February.

But another “plus” of having your starting quarterback being a cheap, fourth round rookie is that your big money veteran quarterback will probably have his money come off the books by 2017. Releasing or trading Tony Romo won’t recoup all of the cap space he is currently eating, but it could potentially help Dallas get another $5 million by the beginning of free agency if done immediately after the season.

It really sucks that Tony Romo’s time in Dallas seems to be over, but parting ways with him could actually help the Cowboys where they need it most.

Pass. Rush.

Today the Cowboys travel to the Meadowlands to face their bitter rival New York Giants. Known for their big money defensive linemen, the Giants possess a dangerous pass rush which could give Dallas fits. However, they are without the very player I believe the Cowboys can target this offseason.

That player, is Jason Pierre-Paul.

Sure, we love make fun of JPP for his fireworks incident, or just because he plays for the damn Giants. But the fact of the matter is, Pierre-Paul is a really good defensive end, miles ahead of anyone currently on the Cowboys roster.

Despite the doubters, JPP has sacked the quarterback seven times in 2016, and was poised to bring down many more if not for a sports hernia injury which will sideline him for six weeks. Pierre-Paul appears to have returned to an elite level, and possesses the ability to be stout against the run, as well as rush the passer.

Pierre-Paul has absolutely tormented the Cowboys over the years, including a field goal block in 2011 which sent Dallas into another late season, downward spiral towards 8-8. It would be real nice to not have to deal with this guy twice a year anymore, right?Cowboys Headlines - Could This Current Giants' Pass Rusher Be A Cowboy In 2017?

Of course, there are a lot of reasons why this won’t happen as well.

Though they spent big money on two defensive linemen, the Giants don’t have much end depth behind Pierre-Paul, as Cowboys fans will find out tonight. This will make re-singing Pierre-Paul a priority this offseason.

The Giants also have more cap room than the Cowboys, giving them the chance to pay JPP more money up front than Dallas could. JPP has spent seven years in New York, so he very well might want to finish his career exactly where he started it.

Or, he could be looking for a change of scenery, and a chance to get back at the team he felt intruded on him in July of 2015, while he dealt with the fireworks incident.
