[tps_title]Cowboys 2017 Mock Draft: Round 7, 246th overall[/tps_title]
Des Lawrence, CB, North Carolina
With the Dallas Cowboys final draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, I decided to double dip at the cornerback position and select Des Lawrence. Matt Miller currently has Lawrence as his 268th overall prospect in his player rankings, which would make him a late seventh round draft pick or a priority free agent for the Cowboys.
At 6'1″, 180, Lawrence has the length to be an outside corner in the NFL, but could stand to add some more muscle to his frame so that he can become more physical against bigger wide receivers. He played mostly in man coverage at North Carolina. He shows good technique to put the receiver in his hip pocket and carry him across the field. He is also a willing tackle in the run game, which is something defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli likes in his CBs.
Lawrence's only real negative is his lack of deep speed. He is overeager sometimes in the passing game and doesn't have the speed to catch up to receivers when they get behind him.
He would likely be a solid special teams and depth player as a rookie, but has the potential to develop into a starter in the NFL.
