Some people think the fourth preseason game of the year is pointless and is a bore to watch. And I guess that’s true to a point, I’m just not like most people.

I enjoy every Cowboy game, and that includes the 4th and final game of the preseason.

No starters should play this game, but because of last week’s lackluster performance against the Dolphins, team owner Jerry Jones recently said it was possible the first team offensive line could get some work.

By the way, that was only the first of many eyebrow raising statements from Jones in the last few days.

This game is the last chance for some of the bubble guys to make an impression, not just for their current team, but for the rest of the league as well. It only takes one or two big plays to turn tonight’s NFL audition into a contract somewhere.

For some guys on the bubble in Dallas right now, chances got a lot better to make the roster because of Jakar Hamilton’s suspension, and the release of 2013 4th round pick B.W. Webb. Guys like Tyler Patmon and Terrance Mitchell will still need to show up tonight, but I think both guys have an above average shot to make the team.

Some answers along the defensive line have been answered but questions still remain.

For guys like Ken Boatright, Zach Minter and others, tonight’s game could go a long way toward making this team.  Also keep an eye on the safety position as Ahmad Dixon and Ryan Smith look to lock up a position. Even if those players have a good night there’s still no guarantee they make the team. The team could decide to go with players who were released from other teams.

Some offensive players to watch tonight:

  • QB Dustin Vaughan
  • WR Jamar Newsome
  • WR LaRon Byrd
  • OL Jermey Parnell
  • OL Uche Nwaneri
  • OL Ronald Patrick
  • OL John Wetzel

Although there’s nothing at stake record-wise, there’s still a lot at stake for players individually, which tends to inspire some of the best competitions all preseason long many years.
