The Dallas Cowboys proved yesterday in their Week 2 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons that a win is a win no matter how you come by it. Their 40-39 victory over the Falcons was one of the most bizarre games I've ever witnessed in my life, which seems somewhat fitting considering everything else that's taken place thus far in 2020. It was full of ups and downs and everything in between.
My postgame ritual for the past several years is to identify The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly for the Dallas Cowboys each week, which is what I'm going to try to attempt now. This no doubt was one of the more interesting games and one we're likely not going to forget anytime soon. I believe it could also very well be one of the more important ones when all is said and done.
With that in mind, let's get started…
The Good
Quarterback Dak Prescott's historic day deserves to be mentioned, but for me the good for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 was Dalton Schultz's unexpected performance. I'll admit I was skeptical of him being a starting caliber player, but he definitely proved me wrong against the Atlanta Falcons. He caught 9 of 10 targets for 88 yards and a touchdown. He did have one fumble, but that's a small blemish on what was overall a great day for him. Now all he has to do moving forward is to be consistent each and every week.
The Bad
I don't think anyone would disagree that the bad from the Dallas Cowboys Week 2 match up with the Atlanta Falcons were the turnovers. The Cowboys ended up having a total of three turnovers, two of which resulted in touchdowns. Losing the turnover differential typically results in a loss, but somehow the Cowboys were able to do just enough to keep that from happening. If they want to continue winning, they cannot afford to turn the ball over as much as they did against the Falcons. This is definitely something Mike McCarthy and his coaching staff will need to stress the importance of.
The Ugly
The ugly for me from yesterday's Week 2 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons was the play of the Dallas Cowboys offensive tackles. Due to injuries both Terence Steele and Brandon Knight were forced into action and although they probably played better than expected, it wasn't always pretty. I however always try to give credit where credit is due and they no doubt deserve to be commended for the way they played. Because of them Dak Prescott had a historic day and helped the Cowboys secure a much-needed victory.
