Healthy Competition: 5 Matchups To Watch In Camp

[tps_header]Most of the time we spend discussing training camp focuses on the competition between players of the same position for roster spots.

Can rookie Kavon Frazier beat out veteran JJ Wilcox? Will Darius Jackson be able to take advantage of Darren McFadden’s abscene and earn himself a roster spot?

These are the questions we focus on, and we do so for good reason. Rarely, though, do we look at some of the competition which will take place between players on opposite sides of the ball. The guys who will line up against one another every single day in the heat, during the dog days of August, and battle it out like it is a Sunday afternoon in the Fall.

Here are some of the most fun matchups that Cowboys fans and coaches have to look forward to during training camp this season.[/tps_header]

Cowboys Headlines - Healthy Competition: 5 Matchups To Watch In Camp 1

The battle between starting tight end and established veteran Jason Witten and young phenom starting safety Byron Jones has already begun.

And boy is it going to be a fun one.

During mini-camp this week, Witten caught a ball on Jones and immediately turned around and yelled “All day!” before heading back to his huddle. The two are obviously fierce competitors, and while some people are looking for a decline in Witten with age, he is clearly working to keep himself on a productive track.

Byron Jones and Witten talked some trash today. Byron a trash-talker? “Not at all. But when Witten says something, I’ll say something back.

This battle will only get each guy better, as Witten is probably the most intelligent and savvy tight end Jones will face all year, and Jones is one of the best all around safeties Witten will face this season.

The healthy competition is underway, and Cowboys fans should be ecstatic.

What do you think?
