Cowboys Cast Viewing Party

We’ve got a very special treat coming up in just a little more than a week. We’ve been doing Cowboys Cast for about 8 months now and enjoyed a lot of great interaction with our fans on Twitter, but now we get to meet some of them as well. Our friends at Grapevine Craft Brewery have graciously offered to host our first viewing party during the Cowboys @ Packers game on December 13, 2015.

There will be a food truck from the highly rated Chez Flo from 12-6, plus tons of the best beer we’ve ever had fresh on tap. The game will be playing on several TVs plus a projector outside in the Beer Garden and much more.

If you’re in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex that Sunday then come on down to the Taproom at 906 Jean St. in downtown Grapevine, TX 76051. Meet me, Bobby Belt, Cami Griffin from CTCLive.com, and others from #CowboysNation as we enjoy the game over some tasty brews.

Don’t forget to show off your team spirit; wear your favorite Cowboys gear!

If you know you’ll be there then please check in by marking that you’ll be attending on our Facebook event page. Check In Here

  1. I think the IR situation for Tony Romo is just risk planning.

Playoffs are not happening… we all understand that. But TECHNICALLY it is still possible. In the off-chance the pieces fall in our favor and we end up sneaking in to the playoffs due to a meltdown in New York and Washington, how bad would it suck if Tony Romo was completely healthy but could not be activated? Based on his timeline of return the last time, a theoretical wild card game would be right around the time he could return. Take stock of how bad you feel right now about this season, and imagine how bad you'd feel if something crazy happened and we found ourselves in the divisional round and we couldn't put a healthy Romo in the game.

Although if we snuck into the playoffs at 7-9, that means we went 4-1 to finish off the season with Matt Cassel at the helm. At that point you'd probably have a legitimate decision on whether or not you want to mess with a good thing.

Either way, I view it as just housecleaning. Don't shut the guy down for the season until you're mathematically eliminated.

  2. Just can't get past the idea of sitting a QB on a 4 or 5 win streak just because he's the backup. If Romo hadn't looked rusty for Miami and Carolina then maybe I could see him coming in and being an instant upgrade, but the guy has barely played any football this season. Momentum in December time and time again translates into playoff success. Not that we have earned that right this year, but if the NFC East folds and we make it in with a sub .500 record then you go with the hot hand. Therefore, no need to keep Romo on the roster. Either we make the playoffs with superb play from Matt Cassel or we don't make the playoffs and Romo won't be healthy nearly in time to play anyway.

My view is that Romo is currently preventing Chaz Green from getting on the field. I know he was drafted with swing tackle in mind but Doug Free has always sucked. He's just had a decent couple of years with some major upgrades on the line. This year his true colors are shining through once again. And he's getting old so we can't count on his false starts and shoddy blocking for much longer. I'd like to see Green out there in real game situations. I'd expect he could at least match Free's performance level within a couple of games, maybe more.

But in all honesty, I'm not so sure that I want to give Cassel a chance to get on a hot streak. I think Romo is the best player on this team (and have for years) and he's getting old. He was drafted in what, 2003? Took over the job in 2006? This is his 13th year in the league and 10th year starting (9.5, actually). Jerry Jones was completely arrogant saying Romo has 4 years left in him. Unless they get him an iron Man suit for pads then he's got 2 good years left, assuming he'll take at least 6 weeks off each of the next 2 years for injury. By 2018, we need to seriously consider having a top-shelf QB ready to go. I want to see us draft a QB high in 2016 and groom the better pedigree QB, instead of trying to groom lowly 4-7th round QBs and failing yet again. Romo was the exception to a very well established rule, along with 2 or 3 others QBs in the league. All of which went undrafted and because elite QBs. That doesn't happen often. Start with a good QB and make him better I say.

Well when you're right, you're right. I don't like the idea of piddling around with a mid-round quarterback unless we have some reason to believe he is severely undervalued.

I'd rather take the #5 pick (if that's what it is) and leverage it somehow… some way to get one of those top two quarterbacks that are supposed to go in the top 5. If that means making a trade, I'm fine with that as long as it's not an RGIII-level trade.

  4. I don't know about the gamble of a top 5 pick at QB, but I do like the idea of Jerry getting trade-happy to move back in the first round to around 16-19, but that depends on how well Goff and Lynch come out of their pro day and combine. Still plenty of time for the 2016 QB class to say who they are and are not. If one steps up and is available at #5, then go for it.

  5. This is a good opportunity to bring up something I think should be in the rulebook; IR only applying to the regular season. If you make the playoffs, I think you should every right to get guys back for the tournament.
