When the Los Angeles Rams made a deal with the Tennessee Titans for the 1st Overall Pick in the NFL Draft, the world was stunned.

Many national reporters pounded that the 2nd Overall Pick could be dealt soon after that, and that with the market being set from the Rams/Titans trade the terms would be quite similar. One of the hottest teams rumored to be trying to trade up was the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wednesday, April 20th… that domino fell.

It has been quite the offseason for the Philadelphia Front Office as they traded away the cornerstones of the Chip Kelly regime (Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, and DeMarco Murray) in the dawn of free agency. It was the trading of Maxwell and Alonso to Miami that helped Philly jump from the 13th pick to the 8th pick in the Draft.

That 8th pick, along with the terms dictated above, was the primary ammo in Philly’s move up to #2 Overall. As for how the Eagles will be using that 2nd Overall Pick… a move of this magnitude is rarely made for a position other than franchise quarterback. The Rams and Eagles feel that Jared Goff and Carson Wentz (in whatever order they go) are worth the price they paid… which was steep!

It’s a puzzling move for the Eagles to be making the move for a Quarterback, though. The lone remainder of Chip Kelly’s big moves a year ago is Sam Bradford (who the Eagles re-signed this offseason) and Philly also went out and signed Chase Daniel, who Head Coach Doug Pederson knows from his days in Kansas City. Typical Eagles.

We’ll have more updates on this trade as well as some analysis as to how this will shake up the rest of the Draft here for you at Inside The Star so stay tuned for more!
