While it lacked some of the marquee names of the first two days, day three of free agency remained just as active. Amongst a flurry of low-end signings the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders had significant additions.

Philadelphia Eagles

After the New Orleans Saints revealed there was interest in Darren Sproles it was expected that they could receive some significant contribution in a trade. Instead the Eagles managed to get one of the most dynamic pass-catching running backs for just a fifth round draft pick. Chip Kelly now has both LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles to play with in the backfield, which while it may seem a bit redundant, it has to be an absolute match-up nightmare for any defense. In addition to Sproles the Eagles managed to snag cornerback Nolan Carroll to help out the defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars

While the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns had attracted all the attention in their free agency acquisitions, the Jaguars managed to get enough significant defensive players to give them an opportunity to compete. In the flurry of defensive lineman that are being signed the Jaguars got themselves Chris Clemens, Ziggy Hood and they resigned Jason Babin. While the Jaguars seemed so far removed from contention last season they’ve now built a defensive line that can make a difference.

Oakland Raiders

The richest team in free agency finally started spending some money on the defensive side of the ball. The Oakland Raiders acquired long time New York Giant Justin Tuck and received former Pittsburgh Steelers DE LaMarr Woodley. While this certainly helps their defense you can expect the Raiders to remain active in free agency given their ridiculous amount of cap space.

Other transaction included:

– Tracy Porter to the Washington Redskins

– Ted Gin to the Arizona Cardinals

– Captain Munnerlyn to the Minnesota Vikings

– Jason Hatcher to the Washington Redskins

It shouldn’t be expected that free agency will slow down since Steve Smith, Donald Penn and James Harrison are just a few more names on the list of available free agents.
