While the news of Tony Romo’s back injury dominated their weekend and probably many days to come, the Dallas Cowboys still have other business to attend to. The roster must be cut down to 75 players by 4:00 PM EST on Tuesday.

The team’s roster page lists 83 “active” players. This does not include Darren McFadden, James Hanna, or Jaylon Smith, who are all on some for of injury list. It also doesn’t include Rolando McClain or Randy Gregory, who have other issues.

Cowboys Blog - Bitching Points: Kellen Moore, Jason Garrett, Tony Romo, Et Al. 1That means Dallas will need to make eight roster moves to satisfy tomorrow’s deadline. They don’t all necessarily have to be cuts, though. They could elect to place Kellen Moore on Injured Reserve as his broken leg should keep him out most of the season.

While they also have the same potential move with Romo, there’s no way that they’ll pull the trigger on that this quickly. The Cowboys will want to at least wait through the end of the week and Saturday’s second cut deadline to see how he’s progressed.

What that means, though, is that one extra move will have to made to bring in additional QB help. Dallas likely won’t risk Dak Prescott in the preseason finale, so they will need at least one more passer to play along with Jameil Showers.

So, with all that in mind, here are the roster moves that I expect between now and tomorrow’s deadline.

  1. QB Kellen Moore moved to IR
  2. WR Chris Brown waived
  3. OT Darryl Baldwin waived
  4. DE Zach Wood waived
  5. DT Gerald Dixon Jr. waived
  6. LB Henoc Muamba waived
  7. LB Brandon Hepburn waived
  8. CB Arjen Colquhoun waived
  9. CB Isaiah Frey waived

Those nine moves will satisfy the cut deadline, leave a spot open for them to add another quarterback, and leave enough players at all position to get through Thursday’s final preseason game.

Inside the Star will have the official cuts for you once they’re announced. Stay tuned!
