It was reported this afternoon that veteran safety Will Allen was released by the Cowboys. While it isn’t surprising to see some players getting released after their lackluster performance against Peyton and company. It is surprising to see Allen to be the first name on that list. Allen hasn’t started since Week two and has had his role diminished in recent weeks.

What does this mean for the Cowboys in the immediate future? It doesn’t mean much with the two starters in Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox. However the backups are definitely going to see a change with the possibility of Jakar Hamilton seeing some snaps. Moving forward and looking toward the NFL Draft, safety should be a top their priorities right behind upgrading this defensive line which has gotten little pressure as of late. What was once a strong unit for this team is now a weakness.
