He's played in the NFC East for a while, but could Jason Pierre-Paul be a Dallas Cowboy in 2020? After spending nine seasons with the New York Giants, Pierre-Paul played two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While his performance might've been overlooked to the Bucs' lack of success, the veteran pass rusher is still playing at a high level.
Things could change for the Cowboys defensive line in the upcoming season. Robert Quinn was impressive in 2019 and was one of the biggest surprises in the NFL as he made his way to an NFL-leading Pass Rush Win Rate of 33% and 11.5 sacks. Now, Quinn is set to hit free agency and with a long to-do list, he's expected to at least get the opportunity to field offers from other teams.
That will turn defensive end into an important need for the Dallas Cowboys. One particular free agent I'm interested in is Jason Pierre-Paul. The former New York Giant could be a very solid option for Dallas.
How much will he cost, though? He's 31-years-old, he missed six games last season, has a serious hand injury we all know about and suffered a broken neck last offseason.
In the last couple of seasons though, he's been productive. In 2019 he got to the opposing quarterback 8.5 times in just 10 games. He is far from the JPP that was seen as one of the NFL's finest at his position, but he can still be a weapon on any defense. He's an above-average pass rusher that can get to the next level in any given game.
Anything more than a one-year deal might seem like too much. He's not likely to get paid more than Quinn is, of course. If the Dallas Cowboys can get him for anything close to a one-year contract around $8M, it will all be about his chances of staying healthy. If he plays 12+ games, it's likely that he'll be worth it.
