Will McClay and Jason Garrett seem to agree with me on Matt Flynn, but not so much on Josh Freeman. The Cowboys will work out the following four Quarterbacks on Tuesday.
- Matt Flynn
- Christian Ponder
- Josh Johnson
- McLeod Bethel-Thompson
Interestingly enough, Josh Freeman was teammates with Ponder, Johnson, and Thompson at different points during his career. The scouts with the Cowboys have to have a poor opinion of the player to not have him among the group.
Johnson and Ponder both have mobility, but have both struggled reading defenses and making wise decisions when it comes to throwing the ball. Yet, their athleticism does provide some intrigue as it could help them keep plays alive if they are pressed into an emergency situation.
Thompson is the least known of the four, having never played a regular season game. He and Ponder spent time as teammates on the Minnesota Vikings roster. Thompson was with the Vikings during the 2012 season and portions of the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Some old film of Thompson, but allows you to see his capabilities within the pocket.
Thompson shows that he can throw the deep ball with some accuracy. Of note, his 2015 Preseason numbers with the Dolphins were not that impressive overall.
If none of the players impress, the Cowboys will promote Kellen Moore to the 53. We will more than likely have our answer by the end of Tuesday as to which player is added to the roster.
