The Dallas Cowboys struggled in 2019 as a team and went 8-8, missing the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. However, individually, they still had some of the better players in the league at several positions. Jaylon Smith (88), Tyron Smith (78), Zack Martin (55), and Dak Prescott (46) have all been recognized on this year’s NFL Top 100 list. Now, the Cowboys top receiver can be added to that list also as Amari Cooper has been ranked 49th.
After Cooper joined the Cowboys in 2018, the team won seven of its final nine games and won the NFC East. He was excellent racking up 53 receptions for 725 yards and six touchdowns, setting up huge expectations for 2019, and he delivered.
Cooper had a rough year dealing with nagging foot, ankle, and knee injuries. Also, he had his struggles on the road catching only 27 passes in those eight games. Nonetheless, Cooper had his best season in several categories. He set career highs in yards (1,189), touchdowns (8), and yards per catch (15.1).
According to NFL Network analytics expert Cynthia Frelund, Cooper could be the Cowboy’s most improved player from a production standpoint this season. She claims that the addition of CeeDee Lamb could see the quality of targets for Cooper (and all other receiving targets on the team) climb in 2020.
He may not be Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, or DeAndre Hopkins but Cooper is certainly one of the better receivers in the NFL and a huge part of the Cowboy’s success on offense.
