Cowboys are the only professional sports team to do this in 2024

After another home loss to the Houston Texans, and not just a loss another blowout loss 34-10 at AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys are now 3-7 with all three of their wins coming on the road.

That means the Cowboys are the only team in all four major North American pro sports leagues without a home win in the year 2024. Even the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards, who are tied for the NBA’s worst record at 2-11, each have a home win.

With four of their seven remaining games at home, the Cowboys have a decent chance at securing a home stadium win before the season is over. But we’ve seen the 2024 Cowboys play. It’s possible they go the entire 2024 season without a victory at home.

Let’s Be Real

Let’s be real about something for a moment, yes I knew the team would take a step back from the last few years, but to think that a team who was nearly perfect at home over the last two years, would turn into this?

The Dallas Cowboys have a record of 12-5 at home between November 19, 2022 and November 19, 2024.

All five of those have come this season! They were like 16-1 at home dating back to 2021. That is just something you can’t even think about.

Bad football teams beat good ones in this league all the time. You catch a team on a bad day, or something similar, but as for the Cowboys, these games aren’t even close in your own building!

At 3-7, they asked Mike McCarthy about potentially sitting veterans to get a look at young players?

“Nah, this is it, man. We got seven losses. We’ve got to go. Backs against the wall. We got to fight, scratch, claw. We’ve got to do everything we can to go win the next game. That’s where my mind’s at,” he said.

“That’s what I’m going to coach and that’s the expectation. We’ve got to win. We deserve to win. You know, we deserve the opportunity to win.”

Mike McCarthy Knows

Two things are happening here with Mike McCarthy; he either knows that he has to play his veterans to battle this out to try and keep his job, or Jerry Jones has told him that he needs to play these guys because he is giving him a pass for this season.

That is the one thing that has been lingering in my mind, but how can you be the only pro team in all the four major sports leagues WITHOUT a home win and get a pass?

I understand this team has been hurt all season, but this started with a home blowout loss to the Packers. This team has not gotten it done under big Mike for the last three years after winning 12 games, and this should be the final straw.

Jerry Jones does not fire guys mid-season. Wade Phillips was the last person he did that to.

He was fired by the Cowboys on November 8, 2010, following the second-worst start in franchise history (one win in their first eight games) punctuated by a 45–7 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Garrett was named interim head coach, then permanent successor, and held the position through 2019.

Do I think anyone on the staff right now would fill in and take over completely like Garrett did, if McCarthy is fired? Absolutely not, but it shows that Jerry will fire someone, he just does not have the track record in the last 30 years to do so often.

This team has three home games left, one on Thanksgiving against the New York Giants, Monday night on December 9th against the Bengals, and then the last game of the year against Washington.

The only chance they honestly have is to beat New York on Turkey day, because if not, they are about to go win-less at home in 2024.
