The height of 2021 free agency has come to a close, but as the major signings dwindle, the Dallas Cowboys have gotten extra busy. So far the Cowboys have signed eight new players, the latest being safeties Jayron Kearse, Keanu Neal, and Damontae Kazee to help bolster the defense.
Up on the official Cowboys team site, they have already listen five of these eight new players with jersey numbers for the 2021 season.
- Jake McQuaide: 44
- Ty Nsekhe: 75
- Carlos Watkins: 91
- Brent Urban: 95
- Tarell Basham: 98
McQuaide is the new long snapper, replacing the long tenured L.P. Ladoceur in Dallas. Nsehke figures to be the top swing tackle for the team, so 75 makes sense. Watkins, Urban, and Basham are all different variations of defensive linemen/pass rushers, which once again makes their number selection make sense.
Given they are such new signings, Kearse, Neal, and Kazee are still without official numbers with the team.
Kearse most recently wore 42 with the Detroit Lions after rocking 27 during his first four seasons in Minnesota. Number 42 is open, so my guess is that if Kearse wants it he will have it. Keanu Neal wore 22 in Atlanta, but we know the Cowboys won’t be giving out that number anytime soon. Kazee wore 27 with the Falcons, which is currently worn by cornerback Trevon Diggs.
