The Cowboys and starting Safety Jayron Kearse have agreed on a two-year, $10 million contract that will keep the free agent in Dallas for 2022.
Kearse started 15 games last season, emerging as a breakout performer and leader on defense. He signed a minimal one-year deal last year to compete with Malik Hooker, Damontae Kazee, Donovan Wilson, and others and is now rewarded for clearly being the Cowboys’ top safety.

Along with leading the team in tackles last year, Jayron also contributed two interceptions, 10 pass deflections, a sack, and a fumble recovery. He was an impact player on a defense that has been sorely lacking consistent playmakers at safety for a while.
With many of the NFL’s top safeties making well over $10 million per season, this deal to retain Kearse is a relative steal for the Cowboys. It also reflects the reality that Dan Quinn’s gives Jayron a great scheme to thrive in.
After much moaning and groaning from fans about Dallas’ handling of free agency, keeping Jayron Kearse at this contract is a big win. Hopefully their renewed relationship leads to even greater success in 2022.
