Are we sure the Cowboys have a 2025 NFL draft plan?

After taking about 10 days off to head out on vacation to bowl the USBC open Championship in Baton Rouge, Louisiana last week, I came back to see what I had missed.

I stayed on social media, but tried to ignore all the Dallas Cowboys talk, like the media saying Dallas should trade Micah Parsons, something that will never happen.

One thing I found when I came back that twisted my gear a little bit.

Cowboys CEO and Executive Vice President Stephen Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday to discuss whether the team could be gearing up for a trade on draft day.

While Jones did say he could “see a situation” where the team makes a trade, it wouldn’t be up the draft board.

Yes, you read that correctly, if this team makes a draft on draft day, it would move down to get a guy of lesser, rather than actually trying to improve the team and maybe get inside the top 10.

What Are We Doing Here?

The title of this post is kind of a joke, but at the same time, after hearing that, the question can be asked: Are we really sure this team has a plan of attack for this draft?

Tetairoa McMillan, Omarion Hampton, Matthew Golden, and Luther Burden III are all among the growing list of players who have often been projected to the Cowboys, and sure moving back in the first round and picking up additional capital would probably be an okay move, but this football team needs a guy that can start on day one, correct?

This team needs a starting running back, another wide receiver opposite CeeDee Lamb, another offensive lineman, a linebacker, a defensive tackle.

Despite making a dozen additions this offseason, the Cowboys did little to improve their starting lineup, and it’s difficult to envision them seriously upgrading the WR room if not with the 12th overall pick.

Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, Ryan Flournoy, and KaVontae Turpin is what the Cowboys have to offer behind Lamb. I mean, come on, this is not a good WR room.

There’s no threat outside CeeDee, and with no running back either, all they have to do is double him every single play!

Unless the Cowboys add someone who can truly make an impact right away, it’ll be a long year for Dak Prescott and the offense. In other words, can they afford passing on their most pressing need?

Truth Be Told, No Idea

In all honesty, I have no clue what this football team is going to do with their first round pick. I have seen so many different mocks out there, but I will tell you right now, some folks are going to be happy, and some will be mad.

No matter what pick they make next Thursday night, it will upset some people and make some people happy.

If Aston Jeanty or the second-best wide receiver is available, and they don’t take him, I will probably be on the mad side.

If an impact offensive player is sitting in your lap, and you don’t take them or trade them down, I have no faith left in the front office.

I guess we will see how things shake out in a week. I just see way too many spots for this team to fill with a top 15 pick, and if they traded back, it would make no sense at all.

The only thing that gets you is more draft capital, but again, you need a player who can step on day one and be a starter to help this team in a loaded NFC East.
