In February, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb didn’t hold back on what the team needed to change to win a super bowl in 2023.
He told The Jim Rome Show that the team needs to be surrounded with playmakers.
After making it known the team needed to add some firepower, he now seems confident with the offensive side of the ball.
The team traded for the walking 1,000-yard receiver Brandin Cooks. He is the best player to never to make an All-Pro team or the Pro Bowl in the NFL.
“Can’t really put a ceiling on us,” Lamb said. “As you can tell, we can score from anywhere, quite honestly. We just have to put it together.”
I did not think that a year ago when they had Noah Brown and Dennis Houston behind Lamb.
With the addition of Cooks, and an entire offseason for Michael Gallup, I agree with Lamb.
Sure, I would feel better if Tony Pollard did not have to recover from injury. Let’s not forget they are adding an electric playmaker in Deuce Vaughn. He might be the most underrated draft pick for this team.
Most fans like to constantly jump on here and mention that the entire problem is Dak Prescott, and until he is gone, nothing will happen.
Comments about needing to dumb Prescott make me laugh. Four quarterbacks make more money than Prescott and sat at home while he won a playoff game in 2022.
If you tried to replace him with any guy available right now, or even a rookie, this team would win at most five games.
Either way, this isn’t about Prescott. This is about the Cowboys’ offense as a whole.
Kellen Moore is gone, and Mike McCarthy is now calling plays. If he sticks to the game plan, this offense will be really good.
I mean, think about this for a second. Last season, Lamb caught 107 balls for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns.
Brown finished as the Cowboys’ next closest receiver in the stat column. 43 catches for 555 yards and three TDs.
The team now replaces Brown with Cooks, and as noted, if Gallup gets back to his usual self, this will be fun.
This team still has a lot to prove, but let me at least say this. I feel 1,000 times better right now than I did last season in the month of May.
They got better trading for Cooks and Stephon Gilmore on the defensive side of the ball.
The Cowboys’ schedule was released last night. After looking it over the first couple of times, they will likely win 12 games for the third year in a row.
They have two tough stretches, but they will definitely have a chance to win the NFC East or enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
We still have a long way to go before we have to worry about about that though. I think we can agree this team looks a heck of a lot better at this time than they did last season.
I expect Lamb and Cooks to have over 1,000 yards this season. What do you think?
