Is running it back the right choice for the Cowboys in 2024?

Even with the Super Bowl taking place next weekend, a hot topic is Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Now that I have had a few weeks to gather my thoughts after another disappointing end to a Cowboys season, maybe running it back is better than the alternative.

Bear with me for a second and read what I have to say about it. Let me first make it overwhelmingly clear, that I would have been perfectly okay moving on from both McCarthy and Prescott when the season ended.

Better Than The Alternative

We have to be honest with ourselves. The Dallas Cowboys offense looked better with McCarthy calling plays than they did with Kellen Moore.

Prescott had an All-Pro-type season but was not good when it mattered, but neither was the defense.

Look around the league and see how some of the play on both sides of the ball was last year. At least what Dallas gives you is a chance.

Most teams are still trying to find success, even in the regular season.

If they had moved on from McCarthy and Prescott after the season ended, they would have been running their third new offense in as many years.

You don’t win in this league by doing that.

McCarthy has the second most wins in the regular season over the last three years. He only trails Andy Reid.

“Overwhelmingly, I thought the best decision was to have the continuity that Mike brings,” Jones said.

“When I look at the job he’s done over the last four years, I can point to some real positives, not the least of which are his 12-win seasons.”

If this team did not have players like CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and others, I would understand hitting the reset button.

That is the issue I have. Yes, the Cowboys have not won anything for 30 years, but look around the league. Some of these teams are impossible to watch on game day.

Again, I would have been happy moving on, but you have to accept it when they don’t.

Prescott will get a new deal, while McCarthy is coaching for his career in 2024.

Jerry Jones All-In Comments

Jerry Jones said the Dallas Cowboys will be going “all in” this year. I will not buy it until he proves it.

“We will be going all in. I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future,” Jones said.

Here is the deal. Jones LOVES to talk. Show me you mean that.

You brought back McCarthy and Prescott. Yes, it is better than the alternative, but it won’t be if you don’t do what you say.

I won’t buy into this team again unless they do make those moves Jerry is talking about.

Be like the Rams from a few years ago. I will take a chance to see one championship. Born in 1996, I have never even seen this team play in a conference title game.

This very well could be a trap card Jerry is using to keep the boys in the media and that is all he really cares about.

We will find out within the next couple of months.
