Is running it back the right choice for the Cowboys in 2024?

Is Mike McCarthy in the danger zone? 1

Even with the Super Bowl taking place next weekend, a hot topic is Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Now that I have had a few weeks to gather my thoughts after another disappointing end to a Cowboys season, maybe running it back is better than the alternative.

Bear with me for a second and read what I have to say about it. Let me first make it overwhelmingly clear, that I would have been perfectly okay moving on from both McCarthy and Prescott when the season ended.

Better Than The Alternative

We have to be honest with ourselves. The Dallas Cowboys offense looked better with McCarthy calling plays than they did with Kellen Moore.

Prescott had an All-Pro-type season but was not good when it mattered, but neither was the defense.

Look around the league and see how some of the play on both sides of the ball was last year. At least what Dallas gives you is a chance.

Most teams are still trying to find success, even in the regular season.

If they had moved on from McCarthy and Prescott after the season ended, they would have been running their third new offense in as many years.

You don’t win in this league by doing that.

McCarthy has the second most wins in the regular season over the last three years. He only trails Andy Reid.

“Overwhelmingly, I thought the best decision was to have the continuity that Mike brings,” Jones said.

“When I look at the job he’s done over the last four years, I can point to some real positives, not the least of which are his 12-win seasons.”

If this team did not have players like CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and others, I would understand hitting the reset button.

That is the issue I have. Yes, the Cowboys have not won anything for 30 years, but look around the league. Some of these teams are impossible to watch on game day.

Again, I would have been happy moving on, but you have to accept it when they don’t.

Prescott will get a new deal, while McCarthy is coaching for his career in 2024.

Jerry Jones All-In Comments

Jerry Jones said the Dallas Cowboys will be going “all in” this year. I will not buy it until he proves it.

“We will be going all in. I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future,” Jones said.

Here is the deal. Jones LOVES to talk. Show me you mean that.

You brought back McCarthy and Prescott. Yes, it is better than the alternative, but it won’t be if you don’t do what you say.

I won’t buy into this team again unless they do make those moves Jerry is talking about.

Be like the Rams from a few years ago. I will take a chance to see one championship. Born in 1996, I have never even seen this team play in a conference title game.

This very well could be a trap card Jerry is using to keep the boys in the media and that is all he really cares about.

We will find out within the next couple of months.

The Cowboys and QB1 are very fortunate to be in a weak division almost every year in the not so recent past. Outside of Philly being the outlier last year, really what is the competition??? The pathetic Giants actually thinking for a while they found lightening in a bottle with a third string QB. Washington going nowhere fast, wholesale selling their best defense lineman for draft picks. And lastly the Eagles face planting themselves down to earth at the end of the season, looking horrible in the process, and then getting destroyed in the PS by the Bucs.

It’s amazing how this phenomenon is rarely mentioned by the sport MSM, although Skip Bayless mentioned it the other day. He is very down on QB1, although he switches back and forward like the wind at times. I guess the MSM/NFL has to hype certain teams with large fan bases.

Don’t care about the All-Pro accolade, annual “MVP candidate” rhetoric, and all the rest of the self-aggrandizing BS awards. He can pile up stats very well against the NFC (L)East and other slug teams ie Jets, Pats, Panthers. I get the article about he is their best option, but without any REAL COMPETITION ever being brought into the picture, how do we know that. Sure, they picked up Trey Lance (and who know there, but would be great if he blossoms). But other than him, they have NEVER brought in a real “contender”.

So, in the PS (if they manage to get there next year), where the competition is better and lights are too bright, QB1 will choke again. But he will get a big fat extension and next year we will be in this same exact position. You can take that to the bank, unfortunately for the long-time patient Cowboy fans.
