The NCAA football season is in full swing, and Dallas Cowboys scouts should be looking at draft prospects for future Cowboys.
The current Cowboys roster is riddled with injuries and players playing well below their expected talent level. A few players could be let go after this season with little to no cap hit.
As football fans enjoy the season, Dallas Cowboys fans always look at college football players and dream of a select few wearing a star on their helmets next season.
This team should look at several skill positions in the draft and try to fill the trenches with young, hungry players, not old past their prime free agents. These future draft prospects are taking the college season by storm.
Potential Future Cowboys: Round One
The Dallas Cowboys should have their first pick towards the end of the draft’s first round. Various prospects who fit team needs should be waiting to be called.
Round One Running Backs
Ashton Jeanty from Boise State is the running back everyone will be looking to draft in next year’s draft. He started the college season on a torrid pace and has a shot at the single-season rushing record.
Jeanty, 5’9″ and 215 lbs, is a patient runner who adjusts his pace to allow his offensive line to secure their blocking assignments. He has excellent vision and uses quick footwork to maneuver through the defense, forcing missed tackles in tight spaces.
He averages 10.9 yards a carry and over 1,000 yards on 95 carries.
200 yards a game is not realistic in the NFL, but 100 yards a game is absolutely doable and would be a welcome site for Cowboys fans.
Quinshon Judkins of Ohio State is a running back the Cowboys will look at and could take over Ashton Jeanty if available. The Cowboys had good luck with the last running back from Ohio State.
Judkins is 6 feet tall, 219 lbs, and a playmaker with the burst and speed to generate big plays. He excels at winning the corner, beating pursuit angles, and is a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield.
Round One Wide Receiver
Isaiah Bond stands 5’11, weighs 180 lbs, and is expected to run a sub 4.3 40-yard dash. He is a big-play machine and would settle in well across from CeeDee Lamb.
In the NFL, Bond is projected as a “Z” receiver due to his elite quickness and long speed, making him a constant big-play threat. His impressive development as a route runner in Sarkisian’s pro-style offense strongly indicates a smooth transition to the NFL.
While his frame may limit his effectiveness as a traditional “X” receiver, Bond’s skill set is tailor-made for modern spread offenses prioritizing open field space.
Luther Burden III is 5’11” and weighs 208 lbs. This receiver has a quick, explosive first step, elite body control and flexibility, and legit track speed.
He possesses soft hands, excels at gaining yards after the catch, and adds value as a punt returner. Additionally, he is a tenacious blocker with a compact, well-built frame.
Burden’s future success depends on finding a coordinator who can leverage his versatility. He has the potential to excel as both a receiver and a rusher, similar to a player like Deebo Samuel.
Round One Defensive Help
Mykel Williams, a defensive end from the University of Georgia, possesses elite size at 6’5″ tall and weighing 265 lbs. He also demonstrates exceptional athleticism, length, and lean mass.
His explosiveness and change of direction make him effective when executing stunts. Williams moves at a different pace, enabling him to track across formations with lateral explosiveness.
He exhibits rare flexibility and the strength to stack and shed as a one-gapper. His alignment versatility ranges from 0-tech to wide-9.
Deon Walker, a defensive tackle from the University of Kentucky, is a massive presence at 6’6″ and 348 pounds on the defensive line.
His exceptional power allows him to dominate offensive linemen, while his remarkable foot quickness enables him to pressure the quarterback effectively. He is comfortable playing across the defensive line and has strong tackling ability.
Additionally, he has a high motor, work ethic, and strong leadership qualities, serving as a team captain and making an impact on and off the field.
The Cowboys can get Talent in this Draft
The Dallas Cowboys will, more than likely, get a late first round pick, and at least one of these players should be available. If so, they should run to the phone.
Any of these players will upgrade the team and give this team a legit shot at a deep playoff run next year.
It is not anything new, but the Cowboys have the potential to be one of the best teams in the league. Year in and year out, fans hear about the teams’ potential, but it is usually coaching and the front office that hurts them the most.
Getting more talent should completely put the failures on everyone but the players, but Dallas Cowboys fans are ruthless. Nothing is ever good enough for most of the followers of America’s Team.
