3 draft picks outside the 1st round that would help the Cowboys

After a wild 48 hours, I wanted to change gears and shift toward the NFL and dive into a few players I think could help the Dallas Cowboys that could be picked outside of the first round.

Now with Mike McCarthy gone and no word on who the next head man will be in Dallas, this very well could change with whomever is hired as the next head coach for them.

But for now, I have been doing my digging into the NFL draft in April, and based on where the Cowboys will pick, below are some players I think could help them if they are around for them to pick outside of the first round.

Nick Singleton

If you don’t know who Nick Singleton is that is okay. He is 6-foot, 223-pounds.

Singleton has excellent vision and can pick up yards after contact.

The Cowboys should still re-sign Rico Dowdle but this duo would be a massive improvement from their 2024 running back stable.

This is said thinking that they don’t draft a running back in the first three rounds, which they very well could, but if they don’t Singleton is worth a 4th or 5th round pick.

He had 172 carries for 1,099 yards and 12 touchdowns this season for Penn State, who made the College Football Playoff. He had 84 yards in the loss to Notre Dame, so he can produce decent numbers.

Jeffrey Bassa

Jeffrey Bassa is a player that I love! With the current state of the Dallas Cowboys linebacker room, if Overshown is out for the entire 2025 season, and they don’t bring back Eric Kendricks, Bassa is a guy they could draft in probably the 3rd round.

Marist Liufau is the only guy that we can pencil in as of right now for the linebacking core.

As a freshman and a 48-3.0-1.0 line. He saw his role expand a bit and finished with 62-4.0-2.0 the following year. He posted lines of 72-4.0-0.0 and 54-3.0-1.5 over the past two seasons to conclude his collegiate career.

The best thing about him is his length which makes him a really good tackler, yet he isn’t the fastest guy in the world, so covering sideline to sideline may be tough for him.

He also can struggle with getting his head around to locate the football, so that could result in some bad plays, but for a third round guy, he could see time with the current state of the linebacker room.

Tai Felton

If the Cowboys don’t get a wide receiver early in the draft, keep an eye on Tai Felton.

This is a guy Dallas could probably get in the 4th or 5th round. Felton broke out in 2024 with 96 catches for 1,119 yards and 9 touchdowns for Maryland. He offers nice inside-outside versatility.

The Dallas Cowboys are extremely dependent on CeeDee Lamb. While there’s nothing wrong with leaning on one of the game’s best slot receivers, the Cowboys could use a more balanced receiving corps entering 2025.

Nobody knows how most of these guys will turn out, but it is worth a later pick if he is still there, and Dallas does not take one early enough.

It is hard telling with what the Cowboys might do this draft, with Mike McCarthy no longer the head coach, and having no idea who may be hired, it is tough to say.

We know Jerry Jones likes to make most of the calls, but as we keep an eye on things, this may change.

This is all just a guess from me, and I am sure none of these players will end up with the Dallas Cowboys, but they could help them right away if they can get them outside the first or second round.
