As we inch closer to the start of the draft on Thursday night, I started to think all about who this team needed and what round they could draft guys in.
It then got me thinking, does this team actually have any positions that if the season started tomorrow they could get away with without spending a single draft pick on them and they would be fine.
Well, I was able come up with three. Now they are not the perfect three, but I honestly think if the season started tomorrow they would be okay with what they have on the depth chart right now.
Safety
Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson will both return at safety. Markquese Bell will join them, who signed a three-year deal to remain at the position after spending a year in 2023 with Dan Quinn.
The Cowboys also signed Israel Mukuamu to a new one-year deal. He is a player that I still think highly of. I just think he has not been able to prove it for more than a couple of weeks.
Matt Eberflus is clearly going to run a new scheme this season. I would be perfectly okay starting the season tomorrow with Hooker, Wilson and Bell as the main three.

Wilson is one of the most underrated players in all of football, and Hooker is a solid defender. He does not get enough credit.
So again, I think this is a spot that they do not need to worry about in the draft or even later unless someone goes down with injury.
Tight End
Some may not agree with me, but I really like Jake Ferguson as the starter, and with the depth they have, I don’t think they need to waste a pick on a tight end.
Ferguson is expected to have a bounce-back season, and Luke Schoonmaker took major strides last season in his development as TE2, as Brevyn Spann-Ford from Minnesota showed flashes of what he can do.
I just don’t see how they can go into even the later rounds thinking that they would need to waste a pick on another guy in the tight end room. You have your starter, and if Schoonmaker just does the little things right they will be fine.

Spann-Ford is an excellent run blocker, so they also have their guy to use in certain situations, and that is why I would be perfectly fine with them going into the draft this weekend and not using a pick on this position group.
Quarterback
Okay, yeah, the quarterback room is one that they don’t need to spend a useless pick on.
Regardless if you like Dak Prescott or not. Look, I am not a big fan of his either, but I haven’t been of any guy that throws the football for this team because until one of them wins in January, it is the same thing over and over again.
A healthy Dak Prescott gives you one of the better starters in the league, and trading for Joe Milton gives you a high-upside backup that still has room for development but will get better with more playing time.

They also have Will Greir. Nobody they find in the later rounds would be able to come in and compete for anything more than the emergency quarterback spot.
Safety, linebacker and quarterback are the three spots that, if they did not use a pick this weekend, I would not care as it stands today.
I am sure some will disagree with me, but you thinking something else does not make you any better than me. This is just how I see it, and I think they are fine at these three positions currently.
