The Draft Experts are Torn on the Cowboys 1st Pick

The NFL Draft experts may get a few picks correct, but the Dallas Cowboys pick will not be one of them.

Any fan who has watched the NFL Draft during the Jerry Jones ownership knows he does not go with whom the experts predict.

It seems as though Jerry Jones and company see the expert predictions and deliberately go in another direction, using the prediction as a smokescreen to get the player they wanted all along.

The 2025 NFL Draft will not be different, so do not get your hopes up with draft expert picks.

Draft Experts are Torn

Mel Kiper, Daniel Jeremiah, Dane Brugler, and Todd McShay are torn over the players the Cowboys will select at 12.

Mel Kiper has the Dallas Cowboys selecting Omarion Hampton with the 12th pick. This is the fourth time Kiper has mocked Hampton to the Cowboys.

Daniel Jeremiah picks Matthew Golden for the Cowboys at 12. Sitting the wide receiver’s speed as the difference for the selection.

Dane Brugler follows Daniel Jeremiah’s pick and selects Matthew Golden for the Cowboys at pick 12. Brugler said:

The Cowboys could go in a few directions at No. 12: cornerback, defensive line, even Jeanty if he falls. But adding another pass catcher would help put points on the board, and Golden’s ability to play inside-outside and create throwing windows would make him a natural complement to CeeDee Lamb.

Todd McShay sticks with wide receiver, but goes with the big guy Tetairoa McMillan at 12.

These are the expert predictions, but who do you think the Cowboys will select with the 12th pick in the upcoming draft?

Who do you pick for the Dallas Cowboys with the 12th pick?

The Media has set the Smoke Screen

Now that the experts have chosen these three players for the Dallas Cowboys, fully expect the front office to go with a different player.

Jerry Jones likes to do his own thing, and the experts rarely get the Cowboys’ selection right.

From 2014 to 2024, the only picks that were predicted by Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, who had the highest accuracy among experts, were 2016 (Ezekiel Elliott) and 2021 (Micah Parsons).

These picks were consensus talents and obvious fits, with Mel Kiper and Todd McShay selecting correctly.

Other years, such as 2014 (Martin), 2015 (Jones), and 2018 (Vander Esch), had correct positions, but the players were incorrect.

The 2017 (Charlton), 2022 (T. Smith), 2023 (M. Smith), and 2024 (Guyton) picks were reaches or surprises with little to no matches.

So, basically two picks out of ten drafts. Mocks are fun, but they go with popularity, not other metrics.

The 12th Pick is Anyone’s Guess

The 12th pick in the draft will be… Who knows? That is the beauty of the NFL draft: the mystery and surprises.

The Cowboys could go in any direction with the pick. It could even be an offensive lineman, even though they have been dollar bin shopping lately.

All signs point to the Cowboys taking a skill position player, so a wide receiver or running back would be the higher percentage pick.

Tetairoa McMillan, Matthew Golden, Omarion Hampton, Ashton Jeanty, and Luther Burden III could all be the pick. Surprises like Kaleb Johnson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Dylan Sampson are also possibilities.

That is just the skill players. Offensive linemen, defensive linemen, and cornerbacks are also involved.

When the dust settles on the 2025 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys will have the players they believe will help the team.

Will those players be the ones fans wanted? Probably not, but that is just the nature of being a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Just sit back on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and enjoy the drama and excitement of the draft. It is always a great experience, and the unknown and hurt only make you stronger, right?
