Can Cowboys strike gold again dipping into UFL?

With the NFL draft now over things are about to heat up for the Dallas Cowboys offseason. They have already started cutting a few players to make some room including Malik Davis.

Over the next month, each team may hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which in 2025 may begin on May 12.

During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft.

For the Cowboys, rookie minicamp starts today, May 2nd and runs through May 4th.

Then OTA offseason workouts start May 19th and will run off and on until June 5th.

Following that there will be a mandatory minicamp that takes place June 10th through the 12th. That is when I would be on the lookout for the Cowboys to possibly use a familiar method to possibly bring in some talent that they still need heading into the season.

UFL AGAIN?

Honestly, If the Dallas Cowboys do not make another move from now until the UFL season ends, I would keep an eye on them to dip back into the players there.

The UFL’s 2025 season is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, June 14, with the UFL Championship game.

KaVonte Turpin was the first player the Cowboys struck gold with when they signed him in the summer of 2022. They followed the same route when they had nothing but problems at the kicker position.

They dipped back into it and signed maybe the best kicker in football as we head in 2025, Brandon Aubrey.

They tried to make it work again last season, when they signed Willie Harvey Jr., the All-UFL first-team linebacker of St. Louis Battlehawks with all two games of NFL experience.

He broke into the NFL from Iowa State in 2019 when the Cleveland Browns signed the 5-11, 230-pound linebacker as an undrafted free agent.

That did not work out as well as the other two, but I looked around and found some names below that the Cowboys may test the waters again with.

JONATHAN ADAMS

Now keep in mind they are only five games in, so this could change dramatically, but as it sits right now, there are some guys that if they keep it up could get a chance from the Cowboys or someone else.

Adams currently leads the league in receiving yards with 313 after five games.

He has 35 targets and hauled in 24 of those. He is averaging 62 yards a game, six yards better than the next leading receiver. He only has one touchdown though.

Adams played his college ball at Arkansas State, where, as a senior, Adams caught 75 passes for 1,111 yards and 15 touchdowns.

He was named the 247Sports Player of the Week twice, the 2020 Sun Belt Player of the Year, and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award. He also played on the Red Wolves basketball team until his senior year.

DERICK ROBERSON

Derick Roberson currently is tied for the sacks lead in the UFL through five games with 4.5, and is pacing for double digits. He has 13 total tackles.

He has experience in the NFL, logging 26 total tackles and 4.5 sacks, including one forced fumble. His best season came in 2019 with the Titans.

He is a defensive end, but can play linebacker, a position that the Cowboys need help with on defense.

He started his college career at Texas as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Sam Houston State.

During his senior year in 2017, he started each of the first 13 games of the season.

Totaled 40 tackles, including 8.0 for loss, on the season … also had five sacks, a forced fumble, an interception and five pass breakups … had a season-high seven stops and a half TFL at Central Arkansas.

These are just two of the guys that the Cowboys if they keep it up could bring to camp later this summer, it wouldn’t hurt to at least test the waters at two spots they need some help at.
