Injuries at WR Could Test Cowboys’ Depth in Divisional Round

The Dallas Cowboys may have won their Wild Card matchup with the Seattle Seahawks last Saturday to advance to the Divisional Round in the playoffs, but they didn’t escape unscathed. Unfortunately, the physicality in which the game was played resulted in a few injuries for the Cowboys, especially at the wide receiver position.

Anyone who was watching the game Saturday witnessed one of the most gruesome leg injuries to happen in recent memory. It was absolutely stomach-churning to watch WR Allen Hurns writhing around in pain on the field after breaking his leg/ankle. As bad as the injury looked though, he should be able to make a full recovery after having a successful surgery.

Allen Hurns’ offensive role may have diminished as the season progressed this year, but he was still a valued member of the WR depth due to his ability to play out of the slot and on the outside. That versatility and leadership will surely be missed on game days, especially since Cole Beasley questionable after injuring his ankle against the Seahawks.

Cole Beasley was noticeably hobbled throughout the Seahawks game Saturday after sustaining a sprained ankle early in the game. The injury may have flown a little bit under the radar due to his ability to finish the game, but it does put his availability for the Divisional Round against the Los Angeles Rams in doubt.

The Dallas Cowboys are going to have to be really cautious with the way they handle Beasley’s ankle injury. There’s no doubt he will be monitored closely throughout the week in order to get him as healthy as possible for the matchup with the Rams. It’s only thing they can do at this point.

With Hurns out and Beasley questionable, the Cowboys WR depth is suddenly a little thin. This is more than a little concerning considering they may have to keep pace with the Rams high-powered offense. Someone’s going to have to step up.

The Cowboys will likely activate Lance Lenoir from the practice squad for more depth, but if he receives much playing time something is seriously wrong. That just means Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Tavon Austin may need to step up their game to pick up the slack.

Anyway you slice it, this is going to be something to keep an eye on heading into the Divisional Round. Whether Cole Beasley plays are not, how the Cowboys WR depth performs against the Rams could ultimately determine the outcome of this game and who ends up advancing in the playoffs.
