The one and only Jason Witten will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on March. Truly deserving of this honor, Witten will join six other inductees on this event. A legend in the NFL, he always meant even more to the state of Texas, where he played for the Dallas Cowboys for 15 years and excelled at his job every step of the way.

Jason Witten achieved great things during his 15 seasons playing football for the Dallas Cowboys. During his time wearing the Star, he was always one of the most important faces for one of the most important franchises in sports. Despite the team’s struggles since the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl in 1996, Witten was always a constant for the team and a hero for its fans.
In 15 years, Jason Witten managed to get a few records under his name. He is only behind Tony Gonzales as the second tight end with most receptions and receiving yards of all-time and fourth in receptions overall. He played in 235 consecutive games, most in Cowboys history. No other tight end has had as many receptions in a single game as he did in October 28,2012 (18). He leads the franchise in receptions, receiving yards, games played and even more categories. The one time he missed a game was because he suffered a broken jaw. Not any other injury could keep him off the field.
A great leader on and off the field, good ol’ Mr. Reliable set the standard for both veterans and rookies. Dak Prescott has told an anecdote before about one of his first practices with the Cowboys. Working on routes with the pass catchers, Dak threw a catchable – yet not perfect – ball to Witten. The longtime Cowboys’ legend didn’t even extend his arms. Not because he was an unfriendly veteran but to prove to the young QB how demanding the NFL was.
“The secret is in the dirt” Witten said on his retirement press conference last year. The 2012 Walter Payton Man of the Year really proved that during his amazing career.
Here at Inside The Star, we congratulate Witten for his induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame as we look forward to watching him in Canton a few years from now.
