Normally during the month of March you only expect to read about your favorite NFL team – of course ours is the Dallas Cowboys – in regards to new players that they are signing in Free Agency. Sorry to break it to you Cowboys Nation, but we’ve got some bad news this Thursday… Cowboys Tight End Geoff Swaim suffered a foot injury that will likely keep him sidelined until Training Camp.

This news is particularly tough to hear because Geoff Swaim was already battling his way back from injury, a torn pectoral tendon that he suffered during the Cowboys win in Pittsburgh on November 13th. Swaim had been starting to find his own place during his second year with the Cowboys, a tall order for any tight end to do on the team with a Star on their helmets thanks in large part to future Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Witten.

Geoff Swaim has become a favorite of Cowboys Nation, as loyalists will typically cry out “SWAIMMM TRAINNN” every time he touches the ball or does anything close to being involved. His potential growth as a tight end is something that many Cowboys fans have begun to really cling to with the expectation that Jason Witten could retire following the 2017 Cowboys season.

Dallas Cowboys Tight End Geoff Swaim will likely be out until the team travels to Training Camp.

Swaim’s ascension to the second tight end spot on the Cowboys depth chart actually came via injury, just one that wasn’t to him. James Hanna, coming off being re-signed by the team last offseason, has dealt with a very serious knee injury that now leaves the state of an incredibly important position in the hands of the aforementioned Witten and recent football-transition-sixth-round-pick Rico Gathers.

The 2017 NFL Draft brings with it some potential options that could stabilize the future of the position. Whether or not the Dallas Cowboys choose to go that route remains to be seen, but they might need to if they want any tight ends to run any routes this season.

  1. I think for a while it’s been time to do a TE clean house , Besides J Wit , what is up with our luck in the TE department. I think people forget that at one point We had the likes of Martellus Bennett and Anthony Fasono on the roster, since then ZERO production from every TE besides the Hall of Famer. We need to Let all of them go , definitely Hanna and Escobar . Maybe Rico ready and Hopefully grab from a deep TE draft class Witten is getting there in age if they haven’t noticed yet. Another TE would bring a whole different element this offense
