The Cowboys are definitely in need of a running back right? Yes Joseph Randle was drafted a year ago and DeMarco Murray is the franchise running back but Freeman just might be better than both. Murray is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and in today’s NFL, teams don’t offer second contracts to guys not named Adrian Peterson.

We all know about Murray’s injury history and Randle never really played up to the Cowboys expectation. I was one of those draft analysts/fans that was in an uproar when Randle was selected. The biggest issue I had with the selection was who was available at the time. Phillip Tanner is a restricted free agent and might not return so there is an obvious need.

Freeman may be the best of the running back group. He is the best at blocking which makes him a great option on third down. The Cowboys need to continue to put great protection around Romo, so he makes sense. He doesn’t have the best vision but he is a tough man to bring down at times. I am higher on physical runners than finesse runners despite their durability in the NFL.
