Defensive Tackle – 3 Tech

Jason Hatcher  left a void, physically (6’6 300 pounds), and left a void talent-wise at the 3-tech. But the team is hoping that a healthy Henry Melton can fill that void. Melton is coming off an ACL injury and has yet to see the playing field, but he’ll get some time to work things out at training camp. He brings quickness and a relentless motor and the ‘Boys are hoping for his return to Pro Bowl form this season.

Ben Bass has impressed coaches since he showed up out of Texas A&M but, like a lot of other players on this team, he’s had a tough time staying healthy. Last season during training camp, Jason Hatcher was quoted as saying that Bass would be the reason why he (Hatcher) wouldn’t be on the team in 2014. Well we know now, that wasn’t entirely true, but we’re starting to see now what Hatcher saw in Bass.

When a team has injuries coaches always say that it’s an opportunity for someone else to step in and show what they have. So far, Davon Coleman has done just that.

Coleman was brought in as an unrestricted free agent out of Arizona State where he played beside Will Sutton. Sutton was a player many Cowboys fans wanted the team to draft but, from what I’ve been hearing, Coleman could very well be the best out of the two. Bryan Broaddus reports that Coleman has taken full advantage of his chances working with the first team defense by the time the mini-camp ended and that he gave Leary and Bernadeau all they could handle.

Name to watch:  Amobi Okoye

Okoye is a name that’s been linked to the Cowboys since last season because of his time in Chicago with Marinelli. Okoye has been dealing with an injury and hasn’t had the chance to show much of anything but Coach Marinelli knows what Okoye can bring to the team, and that’s enough for me to keep an eye on him once he gets on the field.
