Backup Position Battles
In addition to the seven spots already covered, there are some concerns regarding depth in a scheme that relies as much on bench rotation as Dallas does.
Weak Side Linebacker
Right now it looks like Bruce Carter’s backup could be a rookie. Will Smith and Dontavis Sapp will be fighting it out while I expect fellow rookie Anthony Hitchens to get playing time on the weak side also.
Backup Safeties
The backups to Church and Wilcox seem to be Jeff Heath and Jakar Hamilton. Both played last season, with Heath getting most of the playing time. Both need to show a lot of improvement and make an impact on special teams.
These coaches must see something really special in Matt Johnson, but I feel like the Unicorn is on his last leg. He has to stay healthy, no way around it. We’re pulling for ya Matt !
Ahmad Dixon can make this team just by playing well on special teams. Danny McCray is gone so the team needs a leader on special teams; the opportunity is there to take.
