NFC East Rookie Watch: Philadelphia Eagles

The path to the Super Bowl, starts first by running the NFC East. To do that, the Cowboys will have to best the New York Giants, the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. Today, we look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ draft picks that could be the biggest problem for the Cowboys. Believe me this wasn’t easy, because even when I put my bias aside, I’m not sure that the Eagles hit home runs on any of their draft picks. But, I have to be fair, so we’ll look at Carson Wentz, Isaac Seumalo and Alex McCalister.

NFC East Rookie Watch: New York Giants

The path to the Super Bowl starts by clinching the NFC East. That means beating the New York Giants, the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. Fortunately, with the help of the draft, the Dallas Cowboys have improved as a team. Unfortunately, so has the rest of the NFC East. Should Cowboys Pursue Dwight Freeney?

The names “Dwight Freeney” and “Cowboys” have been showing up in the same headlines recently – including this one. There has been some speculation as to how interested the Cowboys are in the veteran defensive end. Stephen Jones said that at this time, the Cowboys are not interested in Freeney, acknowledging that the NFL is a “younger man’s game.” But Jones also stated that Freeney has what it takes to be productive and thinks he’s a talented player. At the moment, the Cowboys are not interested in Freeney, but should the be?

Possible Substitutes for Lance Dunbar

From the end of the 2015 season to today, the Cowboys’ most improved position is undoubtedly at running back. They have so many new options in Ezekiel Elliott, Alfred Morris, and Darrius Jackson, as well as returning players in Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar. If any one of them is called to action, good things are sure to happen. Unfortunately, Dunbar may not be called upon until after the first six weeks of the 2016 season, as he is likely to start the season on the PUP list. That is unfortunate for him and unfortunate for the Cowboys.

Does Ronald Leary Have Any Leverage?

Ronald Leary, former starting guard for the Dallas Cowboys and current backup is missing the voluntary offseason training and hasn’t been with the Cowboys all spring. He’s a restricted free agent who has signed his tender and requested a trade. Understandably so, Leary is a proven starter, who lost his starting job to La’el Collins in the middle of last season, and wants to play somewhere he has a chance to start. Will Leary be playing elsewhere in 2016? While it may be fun to imagine for who or what the Cowboys could trade him, I would err on the side of practicality and say that Leary stays in Dallas.

Keeping Roster Healthy is Priority One During OTAs

OTAs are upon us and boy is it exciting to see some resemblance of football again! One step closer to the regular season! I’ve missed seeing the Cowboys. It’s important to remember that OTAs, for the most part, have very little hitting and even less action at full speed. While it may not be as exciting, it is the safest approach.

Elliott Could Be Fined for Crop Top

Out of all the players in the 2016 NFL Draft class, Ezekiel Elliott makes the boldest fashion statement. The crop top. First of all, it’s exciting to see Elliott in a Cowboys jersey. He looks great in it. But, then again, the Cowboy jersey would flatter anyone.

How Romo Wins 2016 Comeback Player of the Year

The NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award is given to an NFL player who has shown perseverance overcoming adversity. Winners in the past have either missed or performed poorly in the prior season, or suffered a severe injury but then excelled the following year. While it may be too early to tell, I think Tony Romo has a good chance of winning the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2016. The last QB to win the award was Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers in 2013. Rivers, statistically, had one of his best seasons.

If the rumors that are circulating prove true, then Byron Jones will be moving to free safety next to Barry Church full time. This leaves J.J. Wilcox, a free agent after the 2016 season scheduled to earn $1.

Terrance Williams: Could This Be His Last Year in Dallas?

In the 2013 NFL Draft, the Cowboys traded down in the first round with the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a third round pick. The Cowboys used that pick to select Terrance Williams out of Baylor University, 74th overall. Williams was selected with the intention of complementing Dez Bryant as a WR2. While Williams can make some great plays, he’s also blown just as many, dropping easy passes, several on third-down. With both Brice Butler and Terrance Williams’ contractual clock’s winding down, it would make sense to give both opportunity for one of them to earn a long-term extension at the end of the upcoming season.
