Evaluation: The Dallas Cowboys struck gold when they finally decided to put Dak Prescott’s name down on the draft card with their second draft pick in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

With that selection they not only found their quarterback of the future, but their saving grace for the 2016 season after Tony Romo went down with yet another injury. Prescott is the real deal and will lead this team for years to come.

Behind #4 the depth chart is questionable at best.

It is unlikely that Tony Romo remains with the Cowboys, but there is a slight chance he could finish his career in Dallas. The odds are he will be traded at some point during the off-season. But at this point, there is no way of knowing when or where. I expect Romo’s future to be discussed at length until something is finally decided.

Mark Sanchez and Kellen Moore could possibly return as Prescott’s backup QB in 2017, but if I’m the Cowboys, I would look long and hard for a better option.

I would prefer someone who has a similar skill set to what Prescott has. That way the offense doesn’t change much if something were to happen to Prescott.
