Cowboys rising star avoids significant injury in Sunday’s loss

The Dallas Cowboys found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard yesterday.

Yesterday’s 20-point deficit set an NFL record for the most consecutive games in which a team had a 20-point deficit in their home building.

It was hard to watch, and was about to be even harder to watch when the Cowboys’ promising young star who was the only star of Dallas yesterday.

Big Break

DeMarvion Overshown went down with a non contact injury. After returning this season from a torn ACL, he has been the bright spot of this Dallas Cowboys team.

If he would have been lost due to another major injury, that would not have been good.

Overshown’s x-rays on his knee following Sunday’s game versus the Eagles came back negative, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

He was diagnosed with bursitis in his right knee, which doesn’t seem like it should keep him off the field for too long. Dallas’ first official practice report of the week Thursday should provide more information related to his potential availability for Week 11.

He was the best defender on the field for either team yesterday by far.

Overshown led both teams in tackles with 11 total.

On the first drive of the game for the Eagles, Hurts dropped back on a 2nd and 20 from their own 47-yard line and was taken down by Overshown for a 13-yard loss. Philadelphia ended up punting on the drive.

In the second quarter, Overshown got to Hurts again. On a 2nd and 9 from the Cowboys’ 47-yard line, he took Jalen Hurts down for a sack.

Risking It All

We know this team is going to have a top-10 pick this season, and all these young stars like Overshown are risking it all when they take the field for Dallas the rest of the season.

The defense is finding themselves on the field 90% of the football game with how bad the offense is and now will be.

Think about this: Cooper Rush threw for 45 yards. I mean really, 45 yards in a football game. A game that the Dallas Cowboys were down the entry game.

Most of these players will have a spot on the roster next season, but when it comes to the coaches, it sounds like the locker room is pretty close to giving up on Mike McCarthy.

Micah Parsons said coaches aren’t his top worry as Cowboys season spirals.

“Mike can leave and go wherever he wants. Guys I kind of feel bad for (are) guys like Zack Martin & guys who might be on their last year or on their way out. Because that’s who I wanted to hold the trophy for.”

What Hope Is Left?

We all know that these guys get paid to play at the highest level, but if the Cowboys lose somebody this season to a major injury in a game that is a blowout, it is not going to make me happy.

At this point, I say start Trey Lance and see if they can get anything out of him, Cooper Rush is what he is a backup and that is the best he will ever be. People really thought this was going to be different.

Until Jerry Jones admits that this team has a problem, nothing is going to change. Things are starting to get under his skin, and you can see it, but he won’t make any in season changes.

The Cowboys avoid a massive blow on a defense that already struggles, if they had lost him again for the rest of this year, it would have not been good.
