Yes, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are without a win this season, but they have lost all four games by a combined 20 points and every single game has been decided by a touchdown or less.
Of course, this is a game that the Cowboys should handle pretty well at home, but we have already seen some of the weirdest things happen in only the first four weeks of the season, and even with Baker Mayfield out, this game still has some matchups that are worth watching.
Let’s dive into those.
Bucky Irving
With backup quarterback Jalon Daniels starting for the second straight week, I think it is important to keep an eye on Bucky Irving and the way they will look to attack the Cowboys defensive line.
They have been better the last two weeks at stopping the run, but Bucky is averaging more than 106 yards per game. The issue for them is finding balance, which has been very hard for them thus far, even with Mayfield.
The Bucs have thrown five interceptions in four games, and if they can get a lead early and keep it that way, it should force Irving out of the running game and have a rookie quarterback try and beat you.
No Antoine Winfield Jr.
Listen, the Cowboys’ offense should have a field day with these guys, but it seems like when that is the case all over the league, it never happens.
The Dallas offense is clicking on all cylinders and the Bucs will be without Antoine Winfield Jr. who injured his rips last week in their loss to the Packers.
The Cowboys are going to get Tyler Smith back to the offensive line, and this should help out both running and passing the football, but we will see how this plays out.
CeeDee Lamb leads the entire NFL in catches (37), targets (46) and receiving yards (498). While George Pickens has just 18 receptions for 225 yards and has yet to score, but I expect that to change tomorrow.
Get Right Game
This defense has no better chance at a get right game than they do against this Tampa offense at home.
If you want the secondary to figure it out and gain some confidence, it will be against these guys.
The Bucs rank 28th in total offense, averaging just 278.3 yards per game, and Emeka Egbuka will still probably cause the Cowboys secondary some issues. He currently has 15 catches for 154 yards and one touchdown.
Still, this defensive front has looked a lot better the last two games. The main issue is this secondary figuring it out, and they have been torched on the back end every single week, and if they let Jalon Daniels do it to them this week, then all hope might be lost for them.
The Cowboys at home should be just fine, and no this is not a trap game, it might be close for a quater and a half, but expect the talent of the Cowboys to start to overwhelm them and we know how these Thursday night games go normally.
Cowboys record by points allowed since 2025:
🔹Under 30: 7-3
🔹30+: 2-8-1 (including today)
All of these matchups will be something I will be tuning into, but what a golden chance for the Cowboys to get to 3-2, and enjoy the weekend being over .500 after the game-winning drive by the offense last week.
Need the defense to figure some things out against these guys, and hopefully the offense stays hot.
I am sure something crazy will happen that has only happened like 5 other times in the history of the sport and the Cowboys will be on the wrong side of it, but either way, Dallas should win all these matchups and be sitting over .500 on this short week.
