Cowboys Contract Dilemmas Regarding Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb

The Dallas Cowboys front office has painted itself into a corner with significant contract dilemmas starting off the 2024 preseason. They have opened training camp with contractual issues that need to be completed.

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb seek new contracts and strive to be compensated as the top players in their respective positions.

As the contractual dominoes fall around the NFL, with other players at the quarterback and wide receiver positions getting new contracts, Prescott and Lamb will soon be paid very well.

Let’s examine the contracts signed so far and consider what is being said around the NFL about Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s contract negotiations.

Quarterback Contracts

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have a situation regarding his contract and the contracts signed around the league as of late. The Cowboys’ front office has watched as other teams have signed their signal callers to new contracts.

As the Dallas Cowboys continue to wait to sign their star quarterback, his price tag keeps increasing because of the contracts being handed out by other teams.

Here are the top-10 quarterback contracts for the 2024 season:

2024 NFL Quarterback Contracts

When you compare the five quarterbacks with the top contracts in the league, Dak Prescott outperforms them in most categories.

Dak Prescott has 114 starts, a 73-41 record, a 2-5 playoff record, a 99.0 rating, and a 202-74 TD:INT.

Most of these numbers are superior to those of the top five quarterbacks on the list.

At this stage of the offseason, Prescott’s contract should range from $55 million to approximately $60 million. If the front office had worked on the contract at last season’s end, however, Dak Prescott would have been making $55 million a year.

Wide Receiver Contracts

The Dallas Cowboys wide receivers’ room is missing a major player in training camp; CeeDee Lamb is holding out as he awaits a new contract.

To this point in the offseason, fans have watched as several top-tier wide receivers have received new deals. CeeDee is working out on his own as he waits for a contract extension. He is currently the 53rd-highest-paid receiver in the NFL.

This is unacceptable for a top-three wide receiver.

Like with Dak Prescott, the Cowboys front office has waited to sign their star receiver as fans wonder why the team is waiting.

The front office’s approach to CeeDee increased his price tag as several players at Lamb’s level got their contracts.

Look at the top-five wide receiver contracts going into the 2024 season:

Fans can see that the floor for a wide receiver of Lamb’s caliber is $30 million a year, and the ceiling should be nearly $35 million a year.

Justin Jefferson is definitely the top receiver in the league, and after him, it’s up for debate whether CeeDee ranks second or third.

Get ready because CeeDee Lamb is not just any wide receiver — he’s top-three material. Soon, he’ll be getting paid like that, too!

New Contract Offers Sent

People close to the Dallas Cowboys have said they have sent new deals for both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

Fish is a great resource when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. He recently stated on his X.com account that the Dallas Cowboys have sent out new offers.

Will these offers be enough for these two superstars?

The front office probably low-balled them, but maybe they sent Prescott and Lamb reasonable offers.

According to Si.com:

“Jones told the media on Friday that the organization had discussions with the agents of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb on Thursday and that the conversations were ‘good.'”

Todd Archer from ESPN reported that the Cowboys’ Executive Vice President, Stephen Jones, said the team made a contract offer to Lamb on Friday and another offer to Prescott in the past week.

Maybe hearing this news from two high-ranking media individuals with connections inside the organization is promising.

Dallas Cowboys fans are no strangers to drama when it comes to the team, but taking so much time to pay two of the best players on the team is absurd.

As training camp progresses and the eventual contracts awarded become common knowledge, fans may gain a clearer understanding of the current gap between the two sides.

Hopefully, over the next couple of weeks, fans will see headlines announcing the signing of contracts.

Just know that the regular season is approaching, and the Cowboys should soon have the whole team on the field.
